Strengths

StrengthsFinder 2.0 says my top 5 Personality themes are:

  1. Strategic
  2. Learner
  3. Intellection
  4. Futuristic
  5. Belief

If you have the book, you can look up my strengths and see how they might relate to your own. You can also check out my blog post about it, I list the descriptions and my thoughts on each strength.

A man only begins to be a man when he ceases to whine and revile, and commences to search for the hidden justice which regulates his life. And as he adapts his mind to that regulating factor, he ceases to accuse others as the cause of his condition, and builds himself up in strong and noble thoughts; ceases to kick against circumstances, but begins to use them as aids to his more rapid progress, and as a means of discovering the hidden powers and possibilities within himself.
James Allen, As A Man Thinketh

Understanding

It is my passion to understand as much as I can about the world around me, so that I might then apply it to improving my life and the lives of my fellow human beings. I spend most my free time researcing subjects related to my chosen profession and anything else that will bridge the gaps between technology and real life.

Technology and the world it opens up fascinates me. We can now create things that 100 years ago nobody could have even imagined. That said, I do not believe technology should be a replacement for living. The ideas I have and the products I wish to create would simply make it easier to live, not pointless to do so.

One of the underlying forces that I try to apply to my projects and life is simplification. When I first learned CSS, I did so at the CSS Zen Garden. The site and the principals it taught resonated with me in a way few other learning experiences have.

Learning

Although I am constantly learning more about the subjects I'm already quite familiar with, I also strive to learn about new subjects and techniques. Some of the things I am currently interested in are listed below.

WebGL
3D on the interwebs!
Go
Go, is a relatively new language being developed by Google and an Open Source community.
Less
A dynamic stylesheet language. Lets you write CSS with variables and adds additional structure to the language.
Self-governance
Not technology related, but something I feel is an important part of life. Learning how to govern ones own affairs, take responsibility for ones choices and realizing ones capabilities in the process.

What I know

I am well versed in many different web technologies, covering both Client & Server Side development. These include, but aren't limited to:
Javascript HTML CSS PHP Node.js XHTML XSL jQuery ExtJS Apache Nginx MySQL MongoDB SSH Wordpress Squarespace

Graphics

Outside of web specific knowledge, I am, if i do say so myself, not too shabby with Adobe Products, such as:
Photoshop Illustrator Fireworks Flash AIR

Versioning

I use both SVN and Git for development repositories, and have used various others including Mercurial and CVS.

Operating Systems

Although I lean towards Windows, I am very familiar with Ubuntu, OSX, Fedora, FreeBSD and various other operating system flavors.

To Scratch or Not To Scratch...

I can fully build a website from scratch, including server setup via SSH, Database implementation, Designing the site and building it.

That said, not everybody wants a site built from the ground up, thus I have also used various Content Management Systems / Hosting Services such as Squarespace, Wordpress, Blogger, and Tumblr, and have even built my own from time to time.
